Antoine Griezmann won’t have it if the Ballon d’Or award was given to Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. The Atletico Madrid striker believes that the coveted award should be given to a member of the World Cup-winning team, one of France’s World Cup winners!
The 27-year-old, not only did his French team win the Russia 2018 World Cup, his club Atletico Madrid won the Europa League and finished second in La Liga ahead of Real Madrid.
But let’s not forget that there are also strong contenders for the award, like Luka Modric, who has already won the Golden Ball for his wonderful gameplay at the World Cup with Croatia.
Despite these strong contenders in the position to receive the award, Griezmann insists that the Ballon d’Or should be given to a French footballer in recognition of the country’s achievements over the summer.
“We are world champions, we’re part of the best team in the world,” the Atletico attacker opened up in a recent interview. “In this best team in the world, there must be the best player in the world, right? In any case, that’s what I think. Afterwards, there are votes, opinions, different judgements. But I think that a Frenchman must win the Ballon d’Or this year.”
The Atletico forward also added just how much it would mean to him if he were to win football’s most prestigious individual award later in the year, stating: “For me, it’s a dream. Historically, the Ballon d’Or is the best of the best. There are only star players, only legends among the winners. It would be a dream to become an example to others.”
Well, the winner of this year’s Ballon d’Or will be announced in Paris on December 3. Do you think Antoine Griezman should be given the award, or who? Messi or C. Ronaldo?
