Mohamed Salah is four-goal short of becoming Liverpool FC‘s all-time highest goalscorer in a single season! And Liverpool great Ian Rush has vowed to “bow down” to Salah if the forward passes his goal record!
Having scored 44 times in all competitions this season, the 25-year-old Egyptian needs 4 more goals against Real Madrid in Saturday’s Champions League final in Kiev to go past the Ian’s record of 47 goals in Liverpool’s victory of 1983-84 season.
“If he beats my record I would actually bow down to him,” Rush was quoted as saying by Gulf Times. “To score four goals in a final would be an incredible achievement. Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez were amazing in their first seasons at Liverpool. But I have to say
Salah’s been even better than them, not only his goals and assists but his all-round game. What I like about him is that he’s such a humble guy — if someone’s in a better position he passes the ball.”
The former striker believes that if Salah emerge with a Champions League winners medal on Saturday, he would be deserving of the award “100%.”
“The two best players in the world over a long time, without doubt, are Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi,” he said. “But over the last season, Salah has been the best player. He played a huge role in helping Egypt to the World Cup and what he’s achieved at Liverpool has been amazing. If Liverpool win the Champions League he deserves the best player award, 100%.”
Two questions we SOS want to ask: 1, will Ronaldo allow Salah win Real Madrid? 2, will Real Madrid allow 4 goals enter their net? Okay, we will see.
