Wayne Rooney has been reported arrested by the British Police after he was found to be over the legal alcohol limit driving in a black Volkswagen Beetle.
Rooney—whose pregnant wife Coleen is currently vacationing in Spain with their children—was reportedly driving with a 29-year-old woman in the passenger seat!
Good news is, he has been released, picked up by his manager and is due back in court on September 18.
What really led to this bad luck?
His Manager George Yiannis revealed the genesis of the whole saga to The Sun.
“I know I didn’t serve him a drink and I’m not sure if anyone else did but as far as I know he didn’t drink in here,” he said. “Whether he’d been drinking somewhere else is a different thing. I heard he went to The Bubble Room then came here. He had his night out and he left but I’m not too sure what time as I was so busy behind the bar. Then I woke up to the news that he had been done for drink driving. It isn’t a great thing to do and we wouldn’t encourage anyone to do it.”
Well, a woman who was there, also stated her side of the story:
“There was a group of girls in there celebrating a birthday, the girl who’s birthday it was happened to me Jessica Ireland, the wife of the footballer Stephen Ireland. Also part of the birthday group was Carla Higgs Kompany, Vincent Kompany‘s wife. [Wayne and his group] were making the waiters take over shots to the girls, and Wes Brown also shared a shot with the girls at their table,” she confirmed.
Rooney was then stopped while driving the VW motor on Altrincham Road and arrested at 2am this morning.
“Wayne Rooney, aged 31, of Collar House Drive, Prestbury, has been charged with driving whilst over the prescribed limit,” a police statement released this afternoon said.
He has been released on bail and is due to appear at Stockport Magistrates’ Court on 18 September, the day after Everton play United at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
